Basketball Needs People in the Seats

In News, Sports on October 30, 2009 at 10:20 am

B-ball1The first basketball tournament of the year is anticipated by everyone that knows about it.

All the excitement will kick off on November 6th at 9:00am and it is scheduled to last for two days. The admission costs for the tournament are $1 per person and $5 for a party of three.

King City and Middlefield and several other teams will be our guests, or enemies, for the two days of the tournament.

Grade 11 student Laura Randall says, “I like the intensity of the sport”. She has attended many previous Thornlea basketball tournaments and games, and loves to watch them with her friends.

Roughly 70% of Thornlea students like basketball but only 60% of them have attended a Thornlea basketball tournament before. That’s a shame when you consider these guys won their championship last year.

Jessie Lau, a Grade 12 Thornlea student, who has attended a Thornlea basketball tournament before replied, “Only once, and because it was a buyout.”

“I think that students should stop looking to benefit themselves and come out just to support our school team,” says Jamie-Lee Joffe, 17.b-ball2

The bleachers need to fill up and students should remember that basketball games are not just a way to get out of class. Our dedicated team deserves a dedicated audience. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been an audience.

This has to stop. Let’s show some Thornlea spirit.

  1. Lets go Thornlea!

Awesome article, straight to the point and lots of expression.
I’m surprised by those stats, we have to work harder.
    Everyone support the b-ball team!
